sql server connect: Hello,

I am currently trying to connect from SQL Server standard
2000 to MSDE 7 using linked servers, but whenever I try
to remotely execute a query, I get the error "SQL Server
does not exist or access denied." I am using standard
SQL logins on both machines, and I have checked and
double checked the login details and they are all
correct. Can anyone please help?

This error does not indicate a login failure, it indicates a failure to find the SQL Server instance. The "access denied" part of the mesage
indicates that you may not have permissions to read registry keys or may be missing OS/network level permissions that would let the lcient
find the SQL Server instance. See the following article for troubleshooting steps:
