SQL Server SP3 Error 7399 MSADORA Darren ford

sql server connect:
It appears that any machine I have using SQL server 2000
SP3a cannot properly connect to an Oracle Linked server.
Machines that fail to connect are SQL version 8.00.760
(SP3) running Win 2003 and win 2000 they are Dell Severs.
and the two that do connect are SQL Version 8.00.194 RTM
runnning on ein XP and win 2000 also Dell Servers.

The error I get simply trying to view the list of tables
in enterprize manager is as follows.

Error 7399: OLE DB Provider 'MSDAORA' Reported an error.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA'
IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ].

I have tried various remote users also with no success.
This error is also reproduced when linking to Oracle
through Access 2000.

The Oracle ODBC on all machines is version 2.573.9030.00.
I have tried to use Oracle's driver and that failed also.

Your explanations are .... a bit ... hum... complicated !
It seems I have the same problem. Sue gave me the Technet article Nr
KB241267.
Is it available for your case ? Is it right ?

Are you in a NT 4 domain ?

Could you please reply to this post... perhaps we can get a solution,
working together ?!

Seb.

I have reviewed the article but doesn't not seem to be=20
the answer as I am connecting to an Oracle server on what=20
they consider Machine C. Machine A connects to Machine=20
B's SQL server throught SQL security not not NT=20
authentication. What is your issue?

Dry your eyes, it's a Microsoft 'feature'...

Connections to remote Linked Servers are disabled by default in SP3

I just opened a crit sit with MS tech support. Here is the fix wit
Windows 2003, SQL 2000, and Oracle 9i:

This is discussed in Q193893 and according to this the registry key "

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI] " should hav
following
entries.
"OracleXaLib"="oraclient9.dll"
"OracleSqlLib"="orasql9.dll"
"OracleOciLib"="oci.dll"

I hope this helps. Carri
