Enterprise Manager port scanning sqldev

sql server connect:
I've run into a peculiar behavior of Enterprise Manager.
It appears that when I run Enterprise Manager with a
particular Server registered (based on TCP/IP address),
it begins to port scan that server. I initially thought
it could be virus/trojan activity, but I'm current on all
Critical Updates, SQL Server 2000 patches, Anti-virus,
trojan and spyware protection.

I'm begining to wonder if it is a strange behavior of
Enterprise Manager, looking for valid ports to connect to
on other servers. To stop this behavior, I have removed
that registration and only connect to it via Query
Analyzer.

Does anyone have any clues or ideas for next steps to see
what the cause might be?

Thanks,

It sounds like you created a TCP/IP alias for the server.
There is a setting in the Client Network Utility to enable
dynamically determine port. Try setting this to the static
port for the server and see if that helps. I would guess
that this setting would start a port scan.
