sql server connect:
I ran into a serious issue in that the SQL Agent stopped
for a reason we cannot determine.
It is set to autostart on re-boot, and has worked fine for
8-9 months.

Issue: Sql agent was stopped and backup were not being
performed

Question: Has anyone ever had a situation where the SQL
Agent, stopped running without someone manually stopping
it

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

No recent service packs

SQL 2000

manually restarts fine

This is a one time event as far as I am aware.

Doug,

More info would be helpful..Whats the SQL Server version, service pack
level? Does the sql agent starts when you try manually? You said it was
working fine, so do you recall applying any patch/service pack recently? Are
you able to reproduce this or this just happened once and you want to know
why?

I apologise for the barrage of questions.

I'd suggest checking the server event logs or SQL Server logging for
any clues...

Doug,

Thanks. We had the same problem after installing a service pack.Since it was
a one time thing for you and also since there isnt any message in the event
log, its hard to diagnose.
