sql server connect: howdy,

running two servers running win2k server. the newer one just has sharepoint
team services installed and runs with mssql server. everything runs just
fine.

tried to install sharepoint in the older one. apparently, it has a sql
server that is not ms? sharepoint does not run. can in uninstall the sql
server and do a fresh install w/mssql server? or do i just disable service?

on the newer machine the sql server service manager specifically says
MSSQLServer. the older the service manager says SQLServer. i get various
errors when i try to extend a virtual web sith sharepoint. stuff like sql
not running on this machine, login user 'sa' does not have permisson...,
etc. etc.

and when i installed sharepoint in the new machine, mssql install @the same
time resulting in a sharepoint website. not so w/the older machine. is
uninstalling a simple process?

What makes you think there is a non MS SQL Server? Could it be MSDE? Can you
connect to it using Query Analyzer, from that machine or other client
machine? If so, execute SELECT @@VERSION and see what you get.

Sure you can uninstall it and install SQL Server. But am not sure what's
going on? Is Sharepoint setup erroring? If so, you might want to post to
Sharepoint group also and see what folks have got to say. Good luck!
