sql server connect:
I've seen similar postings with no solution, so I'll post
again....

Windows 2003 server, default instance of SQL Enterprise
edition.

Client has utilities from SQL Server Standard edition.
(MY Win 2000 server has Standard edition. I am merely
helping out another division in getting their SQL setup.)

I can open/query on their local machine only.
When I try to connect with EM or QA from any client, I
get: "...server does not exist or access denied."

Passwords, users are valid. I can ping the machine
successfully. I have looked at the port settings,
aliases, and client and server network utilities.

Ideas?

Thanks for the reply, but we actually solved my connection problem
today.

We noticed that the new installation on the Win 2003 machine was version
(RTM) (Release to Manufacturing). They had tried installing SP3, but
it must not have "taken".

It was missing the Service Packs, especially SP2 which includes
resolving some connectivity issues.

So we installed SP3, the latest, and now I have no problems.

Thanks :)

Map a network drive to a shared resource on that SQL server and try again.
