sql server connect : How to Read More Than 255 Char Varchar

SQL Server 2000 is supposed to support up to 8K varchar data type, but if I
use ODBC to connect to database, I can only retrieve 255 characters. How to
retrieve more than 255 chars?

It's my pleasure to assist you on the issue.

From your post, I am not sure about the steps to reproduce the problem. I wonder what client
application you use to retrieve the characters and what's the version of SQL Server 2000's
Server Pack. Could you describ some details? Any relative code is greatly appreciated.
