Problem connecting SQL Server 7 to Sql server 2000 Andreas Mueller

sql server connect: Hi all,

I want to add an SQL Server 2000 to the list of linked servers of an sql
server 7 in order to run distributed queries.

I used sp_addlinkedserver and also sp_addlinkedsrvlogin, both with no error
but trying to execute a distributed query returns the following error:
[OLE/DB provider returned message: Client unable to establish connection]
[DBNMPNTW] (Create File()).

Connecting the sql server 2000 to sql server 7 worked fine.

Is there anything else I have to do on the sql server 7 system to be able to
run distributed queries?

Thanks in advance
Andreas

sorry - this is unclear.
I meant running sp_addlinkedserver and sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
on the sql server 2000 system with an sql server 7 as linked server worked
fine.
But I was unable to do the same on the sql server 7 system with sql 2000 as
linked server.
Both systems have correct users and roles set up.
I'm also able to connect to the sql server 2000 system from Query Analyzer
runnning on sql server 7.
