sql server connect:
Hello,
I am getting the following errors when I try to connect to SQL from a SQL
server:

Connection Failed.
SQL State '01000'
SQL Server Error:10061
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]
ConnectionOpen(COnnect()).

Connection Failed.
SQL State '08001'
SQL Server Error:17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist
or access denied.

But when I connect from a different PC I can connect fine. I also tried to
connect from a PC from a different ISP and it connects just fine. I did a
netstat -an and 1433 is listening. I have seen a lot of postings for this
problem on the web but no real answers to solve the problem.

TIA
Joe

Joe,

I got the same error messages trying to install 2 brazilian softwares that use SQL Server.

Problems appeared after upgrade from Windows-98 to Windows XP Professional.

We found that the FIREWALL (ZoneAlarm) was the guilty. Both softwares were Allowed for Access and Blocked for Servers, after the upgrade. Allowing them for Servers did solve the problem.
