sql server connect : SQL Server 2005 connection string problem

In my connection string when using Data Source=ServerName I can get a
connection to SQL Server.

However, I can't connect using (local),(localhost),local or localhost.
Is there any reason why this would work for SQL Server 2000 and not for
2005? Are there specific configuration setting I need to change on the
server for SQL Server 2005?

Just use a period (.) to reference the local server.
