In addition see if the OSQL.exe application form the command prompt
works:

OSQL.EXE -SServername -E <-For integrated authentication otherwise
use -UUsername -PPassword

HI,

I have just installed vista and reinstalled the SQL tools, but can not
longer connect to the SQL Server 2005 server.

I recall there where some diag nostic tools (sqlping ??) that could help
resolve connection issues (vista firewall is off) but can not find them.
Where do I get them, and is there a how-to diagnose connection problems
somewhere?

Is the SQL Server 2005 running on Vista, or is only the client running on
Vista?

I have SQL 2005 server installed in vista and whenever I try to connect
to the server through management studio I get the error ( cannot connect
to sql server .. error 26 error locating server/instance specified ). I
am connecting to it locally. Mix mode.
