Check the SQLAgent.out file for any errors logged - check
the SQL Server error log and Windows event logs too.
What are the exact error messages and error numbers?

I have the same issue with SQL Server Express 2005 - service starts then
stops. The SQL service does not keep running. This issue began after noticing
that SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB 921896) failed to
install. Here is a portion of the ReportingEvents log file:

Those are Windows Installer errors without any extended
information.
Have you tried manually installing yourself instead of using
Automatic Updates?

Thanks for responding

the issue resolved by installing the sp2 again

i think the problem was that the sp2 ddint finished correctly

when u installing sql server 2005 sp2 u need to install it once and
then reboot and then
run setup again
