sql server connect : SQL Server Connection problem

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the
fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote
connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error
Locating Server/Instance Specified) ...........give me a solution.
Thank you

Bill's blog has lots of good info, but if you just want the connectivity
issue, look through the connectivity tutorial in Books Online. The online
version is at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345318(sql.90).aspx

I have followed the advice of both Bill & Rick. I learned allot from
reading both the blog and the documentation however neither of these
recommendations has resolved my problem. I seem to be having a problem only
when connecting to sql server on a remote server from a web service. My sql
tools work fine and my asp.net web application connects fine. Its just the
web service that will not connect and produces the error message. I have
read upwards of 100 posts on the internet with unique recommendations and I
have tried all of them with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

Jim
