It all depends on what they are doing and how. Yes some things are slower in
2005 than 2000. But the majority is just as fast or faster in 2005. It is
very likely that the 3rd party vendor doesn't have a clue when it comes to
SQL Server and simply hasn't tuned it properly. Unless they can give you a
real reason why it is slower (have them show proof) then they simply don't
know what they are talking about. My guess would be that with better
hardware and upgrading the OS and SQL Server you should see an improvement
over all. Just make sure to update the statistics after you upgrade or
restore the db from 2000 to 2005.
