I am using SMO 2005 to assign alerts for error number 20574. My doubt
is whether we hav to assign job for the alerts that are created?? And
also will the alerts be generated when the error occurs and the
operators be notified thru email????

Thanks,

Somu

Only if you want to correct things automatically. In books OnLine you can
read about proposed actions for this error:
- Determine why validation failed.
- Correct the underlying issue that caused the failure.
- Bring the data into convergence by reinitializing the subscription or
through another method.
I doubt you can do it automatically.

if the Agent is running, if the alert is created, if the alert is enabled,
if the error message is written in Windows Event Log - in short, if
everything is set up correctly, then yes.

If the Agent is running, if the Agent is set up to use the Database Mail and
has a profile created, if the operator is created and enableb, if the
notification for this alert and this operator is created - in short, if
everything is set up correctly, then yes.
