documentation.

Perhaps there really was a network problem at that time. Did you try
again? Have you tried using regular backup command?

I found the problem in :

Even though this is the wrong operating system and
SQLServer version, it is exactly the same problem, and the
workaround works.

Basically, the backup / restore is actually successful but
the client thinks it is not. Changing the client protocol
on the server (not the server protocol) to TCP/IP resolved
