sql server dts:
Hello, If I have to restart an SSIS package at the checkpoint, how do I keep
my variable values? Is there a way to persist the variables in the
checkpoint files so when the package restarts, it knows what variables were
written too in an earlier task?

Here's my problem, if step A writes to a variable, i.e. @fileCreateDate, and
later in the package at step B the package fails, when I restart the package,
my fileCreateDate variable from step A is null, and then the package fails
again because fileCreateDate is needed from my Derived Column task.

Do I need to insert the variables into a table in the database as they are
read/written too?

Thanks,

jason

Thanks for the reply Peter. I will build a workaround.

I believe writing variables to the checkpoint files would be a very nice
feature for Microsoft to add on the next release/service pack. That would
make checkpoints much more usable.

Hello Jason,

I understand that you'd likek to know if you could save variable to
checkpoint file so that it could be reused when restarting the package. If
I'm off-base, please let me know.

This feature is not support and there is no option to support to write
variables to a checkpoint file. To work around the issue, you may need to
creating an OnError event handler for tasks that FailPackageOnFailure is
true to save the variables to a table or file. In the tasks you may need to
check the table/file to see if you need to update the variables.

If you have any comments, please let's know. Thank you.
