Iain,
Could you post the full output of SELECT @@version -- as this would be
helpful in troubleshooting this SQL FTS issue.

Also, if you are using SQL Server 2000 and have recently upgraded this
server to SP3 or SP3a and if this server was (an in-place) upgrade from SQL
Server 7.0 or if SQL Server 7.0 was/is the default sql server installation
and the SQL Server 2000 server was a named instance that was upgraded, you
may want to review this KB article:

814035 (Q814035) "FIX: A Full-Text Population Fails After You Apply SQL
Server 2000 Service Pack 3" at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814035 and review
your server's Application event log for error: 80004002 - No such interface
supported.

Regards,
John

and it is the default instance, not a named instance.

You're welcome, Iain,
However, the error "No Interface Supported" has occurred under other
conditions, due to an incorrectly un-registered dll (athprxy.dll, although
it could be other dll's) because of un-installing Office software. If after
reviewing the below KB article does not resolve this error for you, I'd
recommend that you open a support case with Microsoft PSS SQL Server support
and have them put your server under a debugger in order to truly identify
the problem dll or registry key....

Best regards,
John
