FTS menu optons not active in XP Pro SQL Developer Edition

sql server full text search:

Microsoft Search service does not appear in my list of Services, and
full-text menu items are grayed out in Enterprise Manager.

Is FTS not available on Windows XP Professional computers? I have the
developer edition of SQL Server from a Microsoft Universal subscription.

Generally I develop on my local machine and then publish to a server.
Without the ability to use FTS on my working computer, I can't work this
way.

My work around has been to connect to the remote server for FTS
applications. Is this my only recourse?

Any suggestions?

GM,
Since you're using WinXP Pro and the SQL Server 2000 Developer's edition, in
order to use FTS, you must install it via "custom installation" from your
SQL CD as this option is not installed by default. If you were using SQL
Server 2000 Standard Edition on Win2K or Win2003, FTS would of been
installed by default.
