There is an error in BOL. It should read
"Many document types can be stored in a single varbinary(max), and XML can
be stored in an xml column. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 supports certain
document types and provides a filter for these types."
You can also use sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1
and
sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 1
To load os ifilters, like the PDF ifilter. These iFilters must already be
installed on SQL Server.
