sql server misc : Send email if backup fails?

I have a backup job and would like to receive an email if backup fails. How
can I configure SQL 2000 to do this? The problem is that I have no MAPI
client on that server but I do have CDO and a couple other COM objects that
support simple SMTP emailing.

Jon, I am almost positive that a MAPI client is requried for this.

You can download an Extended Stored Procedure which utilizes SMTP
written by Gert Drapers. I prefer this and have used it over the last
year on a majority of servers which I manage. I believe Gert works
for Microsoft and supposedly they use it at Microsoft. Go to:
