sql server msde: Hi all-

I am troubleshooting a case where attempting to install MSDE generates an error along the lines of "MSDE setup failed to register wtih MDAC." I have never seen this error before and the two things I've noticed that make this case unique is the computer is running BDE and also has Windows XP SP2 installed.

I have attempted to reinstall MDAC using the mdac.inf file, however this did not resolve the issue.

I'm hoping someone here may have seen this error before and have some advice, thanks in advance for your help!

try manually re-installing the appropriate MDAC using not the .Inf but the
mdac_typ.exe installer.. that should be 2.8.1 version for WinXP sp2
