Hi,

I have MSDE installed on a Win2K workstation and MSSQL$<bla> and
SQLAgent$<bla> services are running fine. I established an ODBC data source
on that computer and I could successfully connect to the MSDE through the sa
account.

Howeverw hen I try the same thing from another computer (create and
configure an ODBC data source and select my remote MSDE) which is also Win2K
workstation and I test the connectivity (there is a button "test data
source") it will tell me the following:

#Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 0.390.0608
#Running connectivity tests...
#Attempting connection
#[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Client unable to establish connection
#
#TESTS FAILED!

What can I do for further diagnosis ?

please verify, via Server Network Utility (svrnetcn.exe) that the desired
network protocol(s) for remote network communications is enabled

Okay, on the MSDE server it the network protocols are enabled. On the MSDE
client there is no svrnetcn.exe. I have another computer that runs a MS SQL
Server and it has a svrnetcn.exe and the network protocols are enabled
there. From that server I CAN connect to the MSDE server through ODBC data
source.

So what we have is this:

* MSDE server: protocols enabled. local ODBC data source works fine
* SQL Server operating as MSDE client: protocols enabled, ODBC data source
rooted to MSDE server works fine
* MSDE client: no svrnetcn.exe there, SQLServer ODBC driver installed, dont
know how to check about the protocols, ODBC data source to MSDE server does
not work, error as given previously.
