sql server msde : Veritas, Server 2003, & MSDE

We are experiencing trouble with MSDE on a Win2K3 server with Exchange.
Veritas, doesn't complete the install due to MSDE no completing. We have
reinstalled the instance with DISABLEROLLBACK as this was the only way to get
it in. After hours of trouble shooting, I appears to be a login problem with
MSDE.

I believe that Veritas uses osql -E -S Server\Instance to login. This times
out. If I use at the command line osql -U sa -P -S Server\Instance it times
out. However if I add -t 1000 to the string, the login sits there for about
a minute and finally I get a prompt.

I have set the login type to 1 (Windows auth) and to 2 (Mixed) and the
behavior persists. This started after I made the Exhange Box a CA for https
web mail clients. I have since removed CA to no avail.

Never mind. While waiting for a reply and to contribute in case someone is
searching for specifics, like me, here is the info that solved the issue.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=309398. A big thank you to the
group and Andrea Montanari for the original link.

Turns out the cert for the local computer was the culprit.
