MSDE install to SBS2000 error Mark Davis

sql server msde: INSTALL STOPS AT "SYSMESSAGE.SYS" NEED TO CANCEL INSTALL AT THIS TIME. This
is MSDE related....This relates to the system tables in the master database.

Posted to SBS2000 news but no answer. Best Software(ACT) does not support
SBS servers...great but I still need to make it work on this server.

Any ideas???

Need to add:
1) Installing ACT 2005 to SBS2000
2) .NET Installs ok
3) ACT 2005 files install ok
4) MSDE install fails at "sysmessages.sys"
Install rolls back.

hi Mark,

I only found references to your previous posts and all seems indicating
problem with Best Software(ACT) system...
if the problem only regard MSDE installation, try asking them if you can
manually install an MSDE instance from the standard MSDERelA.exe Microsoft
package and use that instance with their environment...

Firstly, why are you installing MSDE on SBS2000 when it already includes
SQL Server 2000 ???

The MSDE installation will therefore need to be installed under a new
instance as the Default instance will be being used via SQL Server.

If it is ACT trying to install MSDE then I would contact Best Software
and ask if you can install the MSDE instance separately or, install
their database into the SQL Server instance already present.

Depending on how Best have wrapped the MSDE install in their
distribution, it may be trying to force an install as the default
instance which is not valid due to SQL Server already being there.
