I have installed VB.Net on my PC, I am a single user with XP Home Ed.. I am
trying to follow the instructions to load and install MSDE but the
installation phase keeps failing. I would appreciate any suggestions or help.

The scenario is as follows:

Applying the instructions on the MSDN page "Using MSDE 2000 with the .NET
Framework SDK QuickStart Tutorials"
I get to Step 2 when I get the following scenario.

I have opened an MS-DOS command prompt and changed to the C:\MSDERelA
directory,
and run the following command:

Setup.exe /qb+ INSTANCENAME=NetSDK DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=1 SAPWD=<MY SA
PASSWORD>

after a couple of screens I get the following:

MessageBox Title: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
Message: The instance name specified is invalid.
OK Button

Folowed by another
MessageBox Title: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
Message: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine Setup failed.
OK Button

Hi Hector,
Do you have another intsance installed of MSDE on your PC? If you have'nt
and if it is your first installation of MSDE on this machine you dont have to
specify INSTANCENAME parameter.
So, if this is the case, try to omit INSTANCENAME Parameter. This will
install default instance of the MSDE with the name of your computer.
After that you can install additional named instances (up to 16) of MSDE or
SQL Server on that machine and with every installation you have to specify
the instance name

Hi Magy,
Thanks for replying, only just seen your reply as I've had to reformat my
hard disc and install all software. Will try your suggestion when I get to
the stage of installing MSDE and let you know the results.
