SQLSERVERAGENT Problem

SQLSERVERAGENT Problem Kevin Kilpatrick

sql server msde: For an unknown reason, every time I try to start the SQLSERVERAGENT, it
immediately stops. It will not stay running. I've set it to automatic.
I've tried to start it manually. I suspect the unstartable agent is also
the cause of a multitude of connection issues - mainly, I can't connect to
the server. I've searched MS MSDN and found nothing that helps. Does
anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks, Kevin

hi Kevin,
[quoted text, click to view]
try having a look at the SQLAGENT.OUT log file in the \Program
Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Log\ folder (MSSQL$InstanceName for named
instances) and in the event viewer for the problem causing the Agent not to
start..

Checked Event logs first thing - nothing, not even a warning in either
system or application. Didn't know that msde had a sql agent log.
Unfortunately, I have flushed everything and am attempting to reinstall the
package again - but that has it's own obstacles; install failure at 98% and
nothing installed. Checking the log is not helpful, only indicates the
install stopped then the clean routine kicked in. No error message at all.
Installing configuring MS SQL 2000 on a quad processor, 8 gb data server,
was Infinitely easier than trying to install msde on a home computer. :(

gracia.

Kevin
