sql server msde:
Hello, all... I have a user (HR DEPT) who has Visio and ADP Payroll
software installed. ADP Payroll installed MSDE and every time she
starts Visio and tries to open an existing document, it starts
reinstalling MSDE. How can I fix this?

We aren't actively using ADP any more for payroll, but need to be able
to access it for historical purposes, so we can't uninstall ADP. I
thought about installing the latest MSDE direct from Microsoft, but
I've got misgivings that 1) it might make things worse and 2) it asks
for a secure password and I'm not sure how to go about giving it
that.... it says something about msdepasswd switch or something like
that and then the install aborts.

This is Visio 2000 which is causing MSDE to reinstall every time she
launches an existing Visio diagram.

Please consider sending me a copy of the reply.
Thanks.

Note: We *can* abort the reinstall, but you have to click about 2-3
dozen times to get it to stop installing MSDE again, and it happens
*every* time you open an existing Visio 2000 diagram.

Why not just let it finish? The Visio instance is different than the ADP
one so it won't affect anything.

Because it keeps coming back and reinstalling. Every time you run
Visio. If it were just one time, it wouldn't be a problem, but since it
happens *every* time you open an existing Visio document, and it takes
7-10 minutes to complete, it's annoying my HR rep. When HR ain't happy,
ain't NO ONE happy. :P

In all seriousness, we've been letting it keep going for awhile and now
a couple months after we upgraded her PC, the HR lady is complaining
again. It would be REALLY nice for me to be able to tell her I know how
to fix it. :-)
