Hello
I don't have very much idea about data bases, but I need one to install wsus.
I've installed MSDE and I have created an instance called WSUS.
The problem is that it doesn't work. It doesn't connect.
I have the service running (called MSSQL$WSUS).
I have seen in the errorlog that the server is listening in shared memory
but not in tcp
Values in registry show that msde doesn't recognice the instance.
What can I do???????
I'm really tired. I'm trying everything I read but it doesn't work. Please!
Thank you

hi,
[quoted text, click to view]

if you nead the named instance listen on network protocols other then shared
memory, you have to enable them.. run the Server Network Utility
(svrnetcn.exe) and enable the desired protocol..

sorry but I do not understand your problem, here... just a note, as you
installed a "named instance", the relative name will be "ComputerName\WSUS"
and not "WSUS" only.. perhaps that can help..

Thank you very much. I had executed cliconfg and I had enabled the protocols
there. I didn't know anything about that utility.

About the registry, I'm not sure what I was watching but now, I have it
right. I mean, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - Microsoft - Microsoft
SQL Server I had just I key called client but now, I ha 3 keys, 80, Component
set and WSUS so it's ok.

Thank you very much

HI

[quoted text, click to view]
I have the some problem.
I install WSUS and enabled TCP protocol in svrnetcn.exe and cliconfg.exe,
but in errorlog contains:
SQL server listening on Shared Memory.
SQL Server is ready for client connections

On other Server I first install MSDE and then install WSUS and network
connection works.
