sql server msde : MSDE VS 2002 Login failure

I just reinstalled my copy of VS 2002 after a hard system crash. Now, I
can't seem to open the SQL Server that the installation created under the
Server Explorer, "DESKTOP\VSDOTNET"

First: this SQL Server has a "Red x" on it.

Second: When I double click on this SQL Server, I get a "SQL Server Login."
I select "Use Windows NT Integrated Security" and all the windows "gray
out." I click on "Ok" and I get an error dialog with the message:
"[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()),]SQL Server does not exist or access
denied.

Now, I would think I would have access to the "preinstalled" database.

WHAT am I missing or doing wrong.

Thank you for the help...

What are the commands to verify the service is up and runing?

Thank you...

Bruce

I just checked my task bar and it says my server is running..All is good.
Don't know why it started working, but it did. I can now create a database
using the Server Explorer in VS.NET.

Thanks..
