sql server new users: who can help for this:

install SQL2000 client on Win2k / Winxp, meet the folllowing error:

setup cannot continute because some system files are out of date on your
system, click OK if you would like setup to update these files for you now.
You will need to restart Windows before you can run setup again. Click cancel
to exit setup without updating system files.

when reboot meet same again. seems go into a dead lock.

the server has install success on a Win2k server.

who can help? thks in advance,

It sounds like some files are not being updated as they are
in use when you install SQL Server client. You should close
all applications and stop any unnecessary services when
installing.

thks for the advice,

but after try still the same. I have close everything I can: anti virus,
running programs, and use the alt-shif-del to the task management and close
all the services I can.

any other possibilty?

thks Greg,

I try to mail to you the OLEAUT32.DLL in my setup files. as I open with
notepad and can not find any version info.
the client setup is success in Win98, but i in Win2k / xp I always met the
problem.

Hi GG,

Don't know if it will help but I recall a similar problem with the package
and deployment wizard in VB6. Turned out to be the wrong version of
OLEAUT32.DLL. Might be worth checking against another system. Right-click
the file and check its version.
