Windows XP PRO - SQL Serv 200 Dev Edit - Log On from Diff Computer Mike Thomas

sql server new users:
I've recently added a second computer to my Windows XP Pro (S pack 2) work
group. On my main computer is SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition.

On the second computer, I am trying to log on with Query Analyzer (and also
create an ODBC connection).

Whenever I open Query Analyzer and try to connect using the Server name of
my main computer, I receive the "SQL Server does not exist or access
denied." message. I get the same message whether I use a valid password /
username combo or not.

I know the server exists and is correct, because I can log on using the
server name, rather than 'local' when using the main computer. The SQL
Server name and the name of the main computer are the sme.

Is there a way I can configure the second computer, or the SQL Server on the
main computer, to allow me to log in from the second computer. I am trying
to test multiuser situations, and need to get on from a second computer.

Many thanks
Mike Thomas

Hi Mike,
Probably the firewall of your Windows XP machine is the cause of your
problems.
