sql server new users: Hi, I had installed SQL server with instance name. Now I want to rename the
instance name. For example the sql server name is server\inst1. I want to
rename it as server.

Q: Can I rename an instance of SQL Server 2000 after I have already
installed it on the computer?

A: No. You cannot change instance names. You choose the instance name during
the installation and you can only change it by uninstalling the existing
instance and reinstalling a new instance of SQL Server 2000 with a new
instance name.
