Hello,

I am totally new to SQL Server and need to learn from ground zero. So I
downloaded the SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition, and would like to get a
feel for the software. Can I work with this without having a dedicated
server. I currently work with Microsoft Access and work off our company's
shared server (i.e. - the same network where everyone else saves their Excel
and Word files). How do I do this? When I try to register through the

If you have already installed SQL Server, make sure "SQL Server" Service is
running. To check that go to Start-->Program Files--> Microsoft SQL
Server --> Service Manager, and start the service if it is not already
started. You can see the name of the server in the textbox. This is the name
(instance name) which needs to be registered in SQL Server Enterprise
Manager (which is automatically done when you install it). In case you don't
see it in Enterprise Manager then you can use this name to register it.
