What SQL Server Version Do I need? AaronJ

sql server new users: Hi,

I am unsure which version I need to purchase? I want to have the ability to
synchronize a remote server with a local server. Here are my specs:

Windows 2000 SP4
Management Console v1.2 SP4
C drive: 12G Total, 6G free
D drive: 90G total, 66G free
4 physical hard disks in a RAID configuration.

Any Ideas?

Thanks, Aaron

Keith,

Thank you, that was very helpful. I noticed that pricing was per processor.
Do you know if I can utilize 1 or 2 of the processors (there by purchasing
only 1 or 2 processor licenses rather than purchasing 4 processor licenses)
to run the system?

Thanks again, Aaron

By "synchronize" I assume that you mean "replicate." I am guessing that the
standard edition of SQL Server would work just fine. You could pay the big
bucks for the Enterprise edition if you want. You might be able to use the
Workgroup Edition. I don't have much experience with that edition of SQL
Server because it was recently released.

Here is a grid that compares the features by edition:

Yes, Aaron if you have 2 processors in the same machine you're obliged to
buy 2 licenses, but you can also licensing by user instead of processor the
calculation that you can do is:
If you have less than 25 concorrent users it's cheaper buy user CAL than
processor license, more than 25 users it's better processor license
considering just one processor.
Anymore doubts send another post OK.

If you have a server with 4 physical processors you need to purchase 4 CPU
licenses for SQL Server.
