Upgrade Jim in Arizona

sql server new users: I'm running SQL2000 Standard on a 2003 standard server.

I want to upgrade to 2005. I have about a half dozen small databases on
the system with very basic table structure and maybe 20 very basic
stored procedures (select and insert procedures).

Anyone know of any problems of just throwing in the 2005 SQL Standard

Hi Jim

Take a look at the SQL Server area on MSDN. There is a lot of interesting,
useful information, including lots of downloads.
Here is the download page:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/aa336342.aspx

The Upgrade Advisor is the 5th link down.

Upgrade advisor huh? Never heard of that until now, so I'll dig a little
deeper and look around for some info on it and give that a try.

Thanks Kalen. I've downloaded it from there and will most likely install

Hi Jim,

No known major problems. Your statistics will be hosed after the
upgrade, so run UPDATE STATISTICS after the upgrade or prepare for some
sub-optimal execution plans :-)

Of course, you should run upgrade advisor first, then update a test
server and test all corners of your database before updating the live
production DB, but I assume that's a given.

Hi Kalen,

Isn't the Upgrade Advisor included on the installation media? I seem to
recall running it, and I can't recall downloading it. But then, at the
current local time, I'm not sure how far I can trust my memory anymore!

It might be, but being able to download it even before getting the
installation media means that you can start working on any issues that might
interfere with your upgrade.
