sql server new users:
I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Windows XP Home Edition with
SP2.Can I run SQL Sever2005 Developer Edition on this machine or do I
need XP Professional?

I also want to run Report Services and see that it requires IIS to be
installed. Does IIS come with the Developer Edition or do I have to
upgrade to XP Professional?

I am concerned about upgrading to XP Professional as I have read of
some people having prolems with the upgrade process and I have too
much invested in other project developments to take a risk. Any
comments on the risk associated with upgrading to XP Professional on
an HP Pavilion?

TIA

Windows XP Home should be no problem:

IIs is not included within Home Edition, there is sure a hack to use
it, but I guess this doesn=B4t comply with the license agreement within
the EULA.

Thanks Jens for the links. I am afraid to try the hack for IIS so I
may just have to bite the bullet and install the XP Pro upgrade. I
dont understand (a) why MS makes it hard to get IIS and (b) why
reporting services should require it. Any comments appreciated.

TIA,
John
