Import/Export Problem Jonathan Grant

sql server new users: I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, I am currently in the process of
installing SP1, on XP SP 2.

I have looked through previous posts here concerning import/export and have
worked out that I need SSIS, but it doesn't appear to be installed on my
machine. I have Configuration Tools, Analysis Services, Performance Tools
and Management Studio.

Is it something extra that I need? Is it on the discs that I should install?
Any clues gratefully received.

Check your Services to see if the SSIS service is running. If not, try
to start it manually.

There are some issues with SSIS after upgrading to SP1, mostly on
machines not connected to the internet due to SSIS checking for revoked
certificates.

It should be on the disk - dunno which one (there are 2). You can put
the first disk in and look at the components you have installed, and
select it if it isn't.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately you seem to have misunderstood. I haven't
yet installed the SP, I just mentioned it in passing.

I do not seem to have SSIS installed, if that is what i need to be able to
import/export.

Sorry for being so dumb, but I've loaded the disk and hit install but there
is nothing that I can see that even hints at adding SSIS

Hi Jonathan,

Picking up your most recent question:

Run Setup.

On the screen where you choose which features to install (called
Features to Install, if I remember correctly) click the Advanced
button.

On the screen that then opens there is an option to install
Integration Services.

Going back to your original question, also try this:

In SQL Server Management Studio right click on a database in Object
Explorer. Select Tasks > Import Data. I would expect the Import/Export
Wizard to launch.

Whether it is adequate for your task I can't say since you didn't
specify what you wanted to do.

Andrew,

Thanks for that. I've started the install and it's plodding along.

All I want to do is simple stuff, I think.

I am a web developer for a large company but am lucky enough to be able to
work from home.

All I want to do is copy test tables to and from Access to move back and
forward between work and home.

The install has finished and I've just tested it and it works just as
promised.

Thanks so much.
