sql server new users:
I am trying to setup a domain user to that will be used to start-up the SQL
server and agent services.
I am on a 2003 domain using SQL 2000 SP 4

The domain user is not part of the local administrators group where the SQL
Server is loacted but I have assigned the local policy privileges as
follows;

Act as part of operating system
Bypass traverse checking
Lock pages in memory
Log on as a batch job
Log on as service
Replace a process level token.

Although the sql server service will start, one of the databases shows as
suspect. The database will not show a suspect if I start the service with
an account that is part of the local administrator group.

I don't want the service account to be part of the local admin group. What
am I missing?

Thanks
Bill Papanestor

Did you check the SQL Server error log for more information
on the suspect database? Does the service account have full
rights, access to the directories where the data and log
files are located?

Sue,

Great idea!!! I wish I thought of this.

The logs do indicate that in this one database the following messages;

udopen: Operating system error 5(Access is denied.) during the
creation/opening of physical device h:\vamdata_tech\vamsystemdata.mdf.

FCB::Open failed: Could not open device h:\vamdata_tech\vamsystemdata.mdf
for virtual device number (VDN) 1.

Device activation error. The physical file name
'h:\vamdata_tech\vamsystemdata.mdf' may be incorrect.

Sue,

I see what the problem is. SQL Server was installed on the physical drive
F. All the databases are on drive F except for one which is on drive H. I
added the user account to the security settings on drive H and the database
no longer goes into suspect mode when I restart the service.

Thanks for your help.
