It doesn't automatically upgrade - you can run MSDE and SQL
Server 2000 side by side. I would guess that's you ended up
two installations. One is the default instance and one is a
named instance. You can detach your database from MSDE and
attach it on the SQL Server 2000 instance.

I could've swore the install offered me the option to upgrade. I mispoke
in my inital message. But, anyway, I'll be taking a look at attaching
the database.
