'microsoft.public.inetserver.*' have classic ASP news groups. In this case
timeout is set in IIS, but all else applies equally. That's what needs to be
bases on users behaviour to use the app. That's the only rule that can be
said. :-)

It's actually plan ASP, I couldn't find an ASP newsgroup :)
Well, the users need to fill in questionnaires, and quite often they click
on the submit button long after the 20 minutes. The questionnaires are about
companies, with info drawn from a DB. And I don't want anyone to fill in a
questionnaire, if
a) they haven't logged in
b) they are not able to see a company's info
c) they have to go though certain stages and thus get different
questionnaires.
And thought of doing this with session, so someone can't just type all the
stuff in the URL, and get the company in question's info

If it is ASP.NET site in question , IIS session setting has no impact as
session timeout is set at web.config file. The timeout for session depends
really on user's needs and there is no other rule to it, except that how
long it needs to be. What does user want? How long he/she is online?

I know the default setting for a session is 20 minutes, and this gets set on
IIS. But, now the question is, how do I extend these sessions?
And, is 45 minutes a good time? this is for reading articles, filling out
surveys, and doing graphical analysis about company entities.
