sql server notification services : SQL Server 2000 and Outlook

Hey all,

We have many SQL Server 2000 boxes here (all running Win2K Server) that we
are attempting to get Outlook installed on so we can make use of the
notifications. However, we are running into some problems.

On the initial install of Outlook and tie in to SQL Server it seems to work
ok. It send notifications on however we set up SQL Server to do so.
**However**.... If we make any modifications to Outlook, or even simply
open the program, it stops sending notifications -- SQL Server keeps sending
them out, but Outlook just stores them, not sending them on to the
recipients -- until we reboot the box. In some instances, when trying to
open Outlook it tells us that SQL Server has Outlook locked and won't open
up.

We are finding documentation on how to install, setup, and tie together SQL
Server 2000 and Outlook rather sparse. If anyone has had success with this,
knows of documentation, or anything else that may help us out, we would
greatly appreciate your help.

You'll probably have more luck in one of these other NG. This one is
dedicated to Notification Services.

comp.databases.ms-sqlserver
microsoft.public.sqlserver.server
microsoft.public.sqlserver.programming
microsoft.public.sqlserver.setup

Hi

It sounds like you are logging onto the server with the service account. At
a guess this is administrator, you may want to change it to a dedicated
domain account. I am not sure why you should want to make any modifications
to outlook once you do have it working! But you may want to use deligation
for the mailbox an access it from a separate account. Are you opening a PST
file? Which version of outlook is this?
You may want to look at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnovba01/html/SQLServerE-mail.asp
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2403

Q6 on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315886 talks about email getting stuck
in the outbox, but I don't think that it is your problem.
