Mapi error -- sql server notification services

I am trying set up notfication so it emails when jobs fail etcc. I am using
sql server 2000 service pack 3A i have set up a mail profile and when I go
into enterprise manger and go to test sql mail it says it opens and closes my
mapi connection fine. However when I go to an opertor type in an email
address then click test I get the follwing error.
Problem while atte,tping to reoslve the address "notify@..." mapi errorcode
-2147221233

Please help I made sure that my profile for them email matched my sql server

Try the microsoft.public.sqlserver.tools newsgroup for help with this
problem.

This group deals specifically with the Notification Services product.
