Andy -

I'm at a location with relatively slow connectivity right now so I
haven't tried to download it yet. Will do it when I have better
connectivity.

I haven't heard of any issues with the downloads, other than being a
bit slow due to the high volume. May want to try downloading it again
to see if it got corrupted en route.

I have not had luck with ISO version of the download, or at least after
downloading it will not work with VirtualCD to mount it. The name of the
file ends as UDF, so I renamed but no luck. Did you download the EXE. Is
there any significant changes to NS?

I tried from two different locations. I emailed the beta group, but got a
bounce the mailbox was full.

hi joe/andy

do we have a summary of the key NS changes/additions in 2005. we are
going to start compatability testing in October ready for upgrade and a
summary would be very helpful. Maybe one is posted somewhere ? or
perhaps the NS dev team (hint) would have one?

Hi Kate & Andy -

Here's a brief list of additions/changes to SQLNS 2005. These are what
come to my mind at the moment so it may not be comprehensive.

* The Notify() function is obsolete, replaced with a view
* New views for inserting subscribers, devices, etc
* Support for User Defined Rules
* New management namespace, nmo (& obsolensence of enumerations in the
existing namespace)
* Support for the 64-bit platform
* New Analysis Services Event Provider
* New GUI in Management Studio
* Database Independence

Hmmm...what else? Seems like I'm missing some obvious ones. When I
boot up my VPC I'll check the BOL.

What does "Please insert Disk 2." mean?

I have just hit the same problem/message whilst installing the Developer
version from the ISO CD image using VirtualCD. Tried ejecting/mounting the
ISO image but the message persisted. Ended up having to cancel several times,
resulting in a number of the SQL components failing to install correctly.
What is causing this and how do I recover the installation (or do I have to
uninstall and start over again)?

Thanks, LindseyB

If you're installing from the CD rather than the DVD, download the
"Tools" CD, too.

Hi all,
I am running into the same exact problem when prompted "PLEASE INSERT DISC
2" when I am installing with virtual drive from Daemon Tools instead of from
CD or DVD. I do not understand "download the "Tools" CD" that was mentioned
below either. Any additional assistance is much appreciated.

Sincerely,
-Lawrence

Unless you downloaded the DVD version, the September CTP is a 2 CD
setup. You'll need to download both CDs. When prompted for the second
CD, detach the first image from the drive and attach the second image
to the same drive letter.

I've not used the Daemon tools to do this, but it should work. At
least I've read posts where it has.

As Colin suggested, look to the setup forums or newsgroups for more
information.

Hi Kate -

I recently worked on a documentation project for upgrading SQLNS
instances to 2005. I plan to summarize my findings and post to my
blog, hopefully sometime soon but there no timeline for that as yet
though.

In the meantime, BOL has pretty good information in this regard. The
June CTP docs had a few errors, but I think they largely been
correctly in the Sept CTP (although I haven't cross-referenced them to
doublecheck).

There's an article in today's SQLServerCentral.com that you may find

Hi Joe,
The ISO I downloaded is just one ISO image file. Not sure it is DVD or CD
version, but I don't think that matters since I am using Virtual drive to
install. If you could help me with what it means when it prompts for second
image file when I don't have a second image file, I think that would help a
lot.

BTW, the image article you sent me just simply explain how to mount an image
drive. Not really really to the error I am getting.

Thanks,
-Lawrence
