sql server notification services: i am trying to get sql to send alert job email using 64 bit

I keep reading it can work
Even if i click on sql server agent mail session mail profile i get
18038 sql mail does not work with 64 bit version of SQL Server

So how do you send email when using a job or an alert.

I set up the microsoft outlook client on the SQL Server and the account
which works it sends email fine. Same account as what starts and stops sql
and the agent.

Then as soon as i go to
sql server agent mail session mail I get the message.

Anyone got this working i so need to use email alerts in my jobs ..or alerts.

Have you tried using database mail (new to 2005) instead of SQLMail?
