sql server notification services: As a newbie, I need help with an issue.

Is it possible to set up a notification to myself that alerts myself
whenever a specific user(s) logs onto a sql database?

Is NS really the best tool to use for this?
Aren't there some internal tools in SQL 2005 that can handle this better?

If not, setting this up in NS as a newbie would be quite a challenge:
1) Enable login auditing on the server
2) Figure out where that gets written to.
3) Create you NS application and set up an Event Provider from the log file.
