SQL Connection stops working all of a sudden Michael C. Gates

sql server odbc: Good Day,

Windows Server 2003 accessing SQL 2000 on another server in the network:

SQL Server is running great! Windows 2003 is running great! However, every
day, sometimes twice a day, the connection from ASP and ODBC to the SQL
server stops working. The error is:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default
driver specified

I have to reboot the windows 2003 server. I tried re-starting about every
service there is, but that won't help. There is nothing in the event log
what-so-ever. A few other servers are connecting to that SQL Server as well
with no problems. So I know the problem is somewhere within the windows 2003
box.

Another note: SQL Server is running on a windows 2000 server.

After reboot, it works again. Please help. I just spent $5000 on a dell
poweredge server, and now it doesn't work properly.

Best regards,

Michael C. Gates

Hi Michael,.

I suggest reinstalling the latest version of MDAC. You can find it at:

Hi Mike, ditto on the MDAC install/upgrade to 2.8.
Additionally, be sure to do it on both servers and then
run the Component Checker to ensure all installed OK.
Some times the thing just doesn't load correctly. Get
the Component Checker at:

Good luck!
