I several instances of SQL server on my Win 2k3 box - from all those failed
installations - and now I'm trying to get rid of them.

I tried to uninstall SQL server, and I got the error:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Uninstall
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The log file "F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SQLSERVER01B\Uninst.isu"
is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue.

OK

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

OK - this is REALLY getting to be aggravating!

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these other installations of SQL server?

Hi
Check out the instructions at: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290991and
see if one of the methods works, otherwise you may want to try one of those
registry cleaning programs.

Thanks Partha!

After Googling on some key phrases for manual uninstall ...

[SQL server 2000 manual uninstall 2003]

... I was then taken to that article (I’m reading it now).

It was at that point that I realized that I had clicked on the link:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290991and

... which is "a rocky road to know-where"
(note the "and" on the end of the link
- which is a part of the text from the message, and not the link).

I didn't realize this until later:

NOTE TO JOHN: I usually place any links that I might give on a separate line,
all by it's lonesome self, so as to avoid this sort of confusion.

*YES* - I KNOW I'm a big, fat, stooopid dummy-head for not seeing this in the
first place, but it's a situation that can be avoided with little effort;
All you have to do is to press that ENTER key a few extra times.

Thanks guys - I’ll let you know how this comes out.

... and now, back to that MS KB article ...
