sql server replication : merge replication over vpn connection

hi people!!

i've been working with sql server 2000 for about 6 month,
and hve being able to create about 32 merge
publications/subcription for remote offices without the
use of any kind of network connection, how did i mede it
work is not important for now,It has worked fine so far.

my next duty is to replicate the database of my central
ofice with the one from my data center over a vpn
connection through the internet.

scenario:

win 2000 server and sql 2000 server, adsl (384kbps)
internet connection running on my data center.

win 2000 professional and sql 2000 server, adsl (256kbps)
connection on my central office.

I'm able to configure the vpn over the two sites and acces
the pc.I'm also able to register the new sql server over
the vpn (somtimes it does, sometimes it doesnt).

When i create the publication is no problem , but the
problem occurs when i try to either push or pull the
subscription from or to the remote server.

sometime it sees the publication and sometimes it doesnt.
This is what is giving me the headaches, the fact that it
only works sometimes even though my network connections
are up and running ok.

I will appreciate any advice on how can i make this work,
or if im missing something.

The king of error im getting are:
* i cant see the publication from the subcriber
* general network error (but its ok)
* unable to connect to subcriber or publisher (even though
they are registered already)
* or some query timeout (wich i know how to deal with it)

i appretiate your help, thanks !!!

Check sql port if it is Okay and Check ur vpn connection through the
internet, it should be stable all the time or upon any replication
instances.
