sql server replication: I have 35 gig db which is used for two publication: one
transactional and the other a merge. We wish to archive
2/3 of the data off of the server. My question is should
I stop the replication and rebuild it after the archive
or should I keep the replication in place during the
archiving process. No subscribers will be connecting
during the archive but the distributor can remain

IMHO I would republish/reinitialize . You would be zeroing out your
Merge_Contents/Log table and only BCP'ing 1/3 of the original
database. The alternate would be a huge Merge_Contents/Log table and
pushing a huge amount of deletes to your subscribers.
